Siena
A charming medieval town surrounded by fourteenth century walls which makes it even more charming. The town’s Piazza del Campo is one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, where the Palio horserace takes place each year in July and August and where you can admire the old Roman Forum. Another must on the list is The Duomo with its sculptures and paintings by some of the most famous artists such as Donatello, Michelangelo and Bernini not to mention the facade which was built in two different stages. The lower part in polychrome marble around 1284 built in Tuscan Gothic style by Giovanni Pisano instead work on the upper part resumed in 1376 under the direction of Giovanni di Cecco.
